Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations, was invited to give a speech at the Johns Hopkins-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies, to have a dialogue with the young people on youth participation in development for all. Mr. Ban Ki-Moon approved of the contributions China has made to the development of the youth, and hoped that China would continue in this respect. On October 31, 2010, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon was granted NJU honorary doctorate. He wrote in beautiful Chinese: “I feel honored to receive the honorary doctoral degree from Nanjing University. I am grateful to what Nanjing University has done for the United Nations. UN is your friend.” These words describe very well the relationship between NJU and the UN in the past 60 years.
