The Moon Cake DIY activity was successfully held in Xianlin campus on Sept.26. Organized by the Office of Taiwan, Hongkong and Macau Affairs and Association, the activity aims to enhance cultural communication between this year’s incoming students and NJU students. More than 110 international students including students from HK, Taiwan and Macau took part in this activity. In the very beginning, a staff from the Office of Taiwan, Hongkong and Macau Affairs gave a warm welcoming speech. In her speech, she expressed her best wishes to every exchange student and hope they could have a better understanding of Chinese traditional culture by this activity.
The DIY activity was officially began at 18:30. The extensive bilingual Moon Cake Receipt were served to every desk. Volunteers from AIC (Association of International Communication) also tutored foreign students patiently. Students cooperated well with each other and every group did an amazing job.
While moon cakes were sent to bake, it came to the guess-lantern-riddles part, shedding the extensive and profound Chinese traditional culture. A karaoke session was also carried out. Everybody was surrounded by laughter as well as the enthusiasm.
In the end, students shared moon cakes which they made by themselves. To many international students, this is the first time to try Moon Cakes. It seems what they shared is not only the moon cakes, but the happiness of reunion and the fun of knowing each other. Mid-Autumn festival plays a very important role in the bottom of all Chinese peoples’ hearts. Holding such a meaningful activity is a way to show Chinese culture, to promote the communication between students, and to provide a platform where east meets the west.
