An English-Chinese corner was held by SIECA at Music Bar at 19:00 in Dec.9th. Both SIECA members and exchange students were having a fine chat over the common usages of Chinese and funny cultures of attendants’ own nations. It was not only a simple activity catering to students, but a harmonious communications among different ethnics, deepening understandings and establishing solid relationships between each other.
When the exchange students came to MB (Music Bar), SIECA members have already prepared delicious snacks and documents to help solving problem of the exchange students. Once all the attendants sat down and started to chat, the surroundings seemed to be permeated with the clashes of thoughts and garnished with exotic decorations.
At first, Chinese students were somewhat timid to talk with the exchange students, but as the conversation went on, attendants became much more relaxed and open-minded. Then came the one of the main topics of the day—helping foreign students to comprehend confusing usages of Chinese phrases. Every participants were endeavoring to explain by using both Chinese and English. It was a time that Chinese and English became some common dialects of a certain area. Without much time, almost every puzzle was cleared up. One of the exchange students said, ‘Your answers really help us a lot. Thank you very much! Xie Xie’!
Then people started to talk about some funny cultures of their home. A German girl mentioned the renowned German black beer, which was praised by a Spanish girl and the writer himself. Also, people were enthusiastically invited by each other to come their hometowns during vacations.
As the Chinese saying goes, ‘There is no a never-ending feast’. When the clock pointed to 20:30, the participants said goodbye to each other and the first English-Chinese corner held by SIECA was over. Many people were still looking forward to another English-Chinese corner.
