On March 26th, we, SIECA members, held the activity “Exploring Nanjing” with exchange students from abroad. In the warm spring, we visited the Jiming Temple and enjoyed the sight of cherry blossoms and the glassy Xuanwu Lake.
On this brilliant sunny day, SIECA members, as well as International students, gathered at the south gate of Xianlin campus. We took the metro line 4 and headed for the Jiming Temple. At the arrival at the Jiming Temple, we firstly saw the cherry trees with blossoms outside it. Moving at a slow pace in the throng, we were still in high spirits despite the crowdedness. On the road, there were many sellers who are promoting hair accessories which were like yellow chicken. They were so cute that we bought some and wore them on our hair.
After admiring the cherry blossom, we entered Jiming Temple, an ancient temple in Nanjing. We saw the quaint palaces and got some knowledge about Buddhism. Besides, we lit the incenses to made best wishes.
After that, we went to Xuanwu Lake Park, which was the biggest royal garden in China. In the park, various flowers formed a beautiful picture. On the lush islets we saw sight-seeing boats in which visitors were taking photos of fantastic sceneries.
Having walked for a long time, we took a rest on a lawn beside the lake. During our leisure time, we played a game called “You Draw, I Guess”. Everyone took an active part in this interesting game and guessed out answers quickly. However, some of the answers were difficult to get because they were Chinese idioms. Therefore, SIECA members explained them to International students. In the process, we all knew more about Chinese culture from the aspect of its idioms.
Afterwards, we had another game called “Take a Picture with a Certain View Spot”. We were divided into three groups and each group got a piece of paper with different pictures of landscapes it. The group that found all the landscapes and took a picture with all group members in the shortest time would win the game and be offered free boat tickets. Having understood the game rules, everyone headed out with their own tasks. Finally, team one got the prize!
Another two groups arrived at the Gate of Xuanwu Lake later. So SIECA members thanked all the exchange students for their participation while the exchange students expressed their pleasure to enjoy such a happy day. At last, we took a group photo at the gate of Xuanwu Lake Park.
This activity allowed Chinese Students and International ones to communicate with each other. During the process, we had a better understanding of Chinese culture and a more broad view of Nanjing. In the near future we will organize another activity of exploring Nanjing and we hope everyone will join us to have fun together!
