An internationally renowned general surgeon and medical educator, Li plays a pioneering role in Asia’s small intestine allotransplantation as well as in China’s treatment of enterocutaneous fistula and clinical nutritional support. To acknowledge Li’s outstanding contribution and noble spirit, the No. 192178 asteroid, discovered by the Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences and approved by the International Asteroid Center, was officially named as “Li Jieshou Asteroid” and included in the International Asteroid Ephemeris.
