  • Q:
    I am leaving China, how can I handle my Chinese bank account and sim-cards?
    A:

    If you want to close your bank account, you need to go to the bank branch with your card and your passport. For SIM card, you can use the service “停机保号” (Suspend Service While Keeping Number), which allows you to keep your number by paying a small fee. If you do not need it anymore, you have two options: you can simply leave it inactive, and after two months of non-payment, the card will be automatically deactivated; or you can visit a SIM card store in person to cancel it.

    How can I apply for ICBC debit card?
    A:

    There are no restrictions on which bank you open the card. Students need to buy a Chinese mobile phone card before applying for the bank account.Exchange students can apply for ICBC debit card with your passport and admission notice. It will take 40mins to proceed one card for one student. Here are some spots near the university. You can also go to other ICBC bank spots.

    You could also contact with Institute for International Students in our university which is charge for the scholarship and incoming students by scholarship. Their website is: http://hwxy.nju.edu.cn/en/

    Institute for International Students is in charge of Chinese Governmant Scholarship and Confucius Scholarship and so on......

    Monthly Living Expenses: RMB 1500 – 3000.

    Books for Mandarin Training Courses: about RMB 100 for one semester.

    How to deal with insurance?
    A:

    Insurance which should cover the exchange duration is very important for exchange students. Please kindly note that, incoming students are highly recommended to purchase insurance in their home countries.

    We suggest exchange students bringing the original copy with them when they come to Nanjing. Meanwhile, we would like to have the scanned copy for files.
